The First generation of Ram pickup trucks was built in 1981 and production still continues to this day. The current Forth generation has won multiple awards thanks to its excellent performances, adaptability and durability.

Along the years a number of special Rams were commissioned to fit various purposes, most of which involved looking good and having extra power added. Now it seems law enforcement agencies will have the privilege to enjoy purpose built Rams in performing heavy duties and other police related activities.
While being a police officer has its rewards, the job also has a lot of hazards associated. For that reason they need tough cars capable of taking a beating and still be functional, as well as fast cars, though these are less often used. Current police cars offered by Chevrolet, dodge and other manufacturers are great cars in their own right, but when it comes to durability the Ram pickup truck has an edge over them.
This is where the Ram 1500 Special Service 4x4 pickup comes into play. Especially created with the needs of law enforcement agencies in mind, in order to provide adequate support in all kinds of situations, the Special Service Ram will feature the built-in ability to use ballistic door panels.

Because of that, this special vehicle will have installed a 220 amp alternator and a 110 volt inverter. The alternator is there to ensure power is available at all times for radio and ancillary lights, while the inverter is mounted directly into the dashboard. To power the truck and all its features a 390 horsepower 5.7 liter Hemi V8 is fitted under the hood. Well adapted for extreme duty uses, the engine also features a larger oil cooler as well as longer lasting spark plugs.
Another extra feature is the RamBox bed, which can be ordered by police agencies to be installed, and offers 7.3 cubic feet of storage space, both waterproof and secure. The compartments come with lights and measure 50.5 inches in length, meaning large items can be stored. The Special Service Rams will have a 10,000 lb towing capacity and a payload of 1,455 lbs thanks to the 3.92 axle ratio every unit comes with.
Ordering the truck can be done through Chrysler Group Fleet Sales and is only possible for polices agencies and other such groups. Civilians will not have under any circumstance access to the Special Service Ram pickup.
